Confused about how often you should visit FixCarNow to have your Lexus’ oil changed? It’s understandable! As most know, it was long a standard to change your engine’s oil without fail at the 3,000 mile mark. With oil additives and the use of synthetic oil, most newer cars go longer between oil changes. While some manufacturers are recommending drivers of newer cars go up to 12,000 and even 15,000 miles between oil changes, it is not advisable to go quite that long. Oil accumulates dirt, metals and other particulates as it ages, which is then circulated throughout your vehicle’s engine, causing premature wear and tear. The adage is that you can change your oil too infrequently but not too frequently (within reason.)

The term for oil aging and breakdown is called viscosity breakdown. Before oil breaks down, it becomes thicker. Oil begins to break down as soon as it circulates throughout the engine. Thicker oil affects the ease of flow, or the viscosity of the oil. Without this easy flow, the engine runs hotter, causing increased friction that shortens engine life by causing breakdown of various parts and systems. This process is accelerated by colder temperatures outdoors. Oil breakdown then occurs – which means the oil is unable to lubricate the engine as it should. This process varies according to vehicle use, driving habits, and type of oil used.

Oil ChangeIn addition to having regular oil changes to keep your engine running longer, having your vehicle’s oil changed at FixCarNow gives our mechanics the opportunity to perform safety checks that can prevent any other issues from occurring. Our ASE certified technicians check and fill all fluids, including brake, power steering, battery, window washer and transmission. Tires are checked and filled at the proper psi. Brakes are checked. Hoses and belts are checked. Air filter is checked and the chassis is lubed. Each one of these important checks will alert our technicians to the possibility of any potential breakdown issues.

Come see us today and allow our mechanics to change your oil and assess any needed repair and maintenance needs.
